Liga MB Round 1: Chalchuapa lose to Santa Tecla

The Regular Season in Liga MB just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Chalchuapa on the court of Santa Tecla on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by Santa Tecla 119-72. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 32. They outrebounded Chalchuapa 65-29 including a 26-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. Santa Tecla looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. Center Carlos Arias (200-89) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds for the winners and center Diego Hernandez (193-91) chipped in 14 points and 17 rebounds. At the losing side point guard Raul Miranda (175-96) responded with 30 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Santa Tecla is looking forward to face Fantasmas in San Vicente in the next round. Chalchuapa will play at home against San Salvador and is hoping to win this game.
Very significant was Aguila's 21-point road victory against El Rapido 79-58. Lee Vasquez (176-91) nailed 28 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winning side and Carlos Delgado accounted for 13 points and 7 rebounds. Aguila's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Jerry Price (170, college: Rowan) came up with 17 points and 7 rebounds for El Rapido in the defeat. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Very important is a road loss of Fantasmas against Santa Ana on Sunday night. Visiting Fantasmas were crushed by Santa Ana in Santa Ana 114-80. Americans were the main players on the court. Marc Montavious fired a double-double by scoring 25 points, 23 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocks for the winners. Coach 's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sameen Swint produced 33 points (!!!) and 5 steals (made all of his seven free throws) for lost side. Santa Ana will meet at home Brujos in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Fantasmas will play against Santa Tecla and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 1 winless Santiagueno won against Cojute on the opponent's court 78-63. San Salvador outscored Brujos in a home game 126-89.

Cojute - Santiagueno 63-78

Very expected game in Cojutepeque where Cojute was defeated by Santiagueno 78-63 on Saturday. Santiagueno forced 23 Cojute turnovers and outrebounded them 48-37 including 17 on the offensive glass. American forward Xavier Keeling (205-88, college: St.Catharine) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. His fellow American import guard EJ Blackwell (193, college: Lourdes) chipped in 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Santiagueno's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Chris Moten (190-89, college: LA Pierce JC) produced 18 points and 6 rebounds and forward Nestor Avalos (182-96) added 12 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Santiagueno will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cojute will play again against Santiagueno and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

San Salvador - Brujos 126-89

San Salvador used a home court advantage and smashed the opponent from Izalco 126-89 on Sunday night. San Salvador forced 19 Brujos turnovers and outrebounded them 58-46 including 17 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when San Salvador made 11 blocks. Dominican guard Bernardo Polanco (189-94) fired a double-double by scoring 46 points (!!!), 19 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American swingman Eddie Ishman (197-86, college: Miles) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks. American point guard Jeremee Davis (191-90, college: Georgia Coll.) produced a double-double by scoring 32 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists and the other American import forward Harrison Rieger (196-98) added 7 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Brujos players scored in double figures. Brujos' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. San Salvador will meet Chalchuapa on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Brujos will play against Santa Ana and hope to win that game.
